Description
Vincennes University is seeking applicants for an English as a Second Language Instructor. Instructors are responsible for providing academic instruction to adults and youth enrolled in adult education programming. Instructors work with adult and youth students individually and in groups to meet the needs of their students in reaching their academic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides instructional activities based on individual learner education levels
Assesses student educational levels using standardized tests and informal inventories
Evaluates student skill, needs, abilities, and goals
Monitors student progress and retention
Develops classroom curriculum for individual, small group, and whole class instruction
Develops distance education curriculum to supplement in-class activities
Maintains student records and information in student files and online database (InTERS)
Maintains frequent contact with students both in and away from the classroom to provide assistance with students' in-class and distance learning activities
Assists students in overcoming barriers to educational and career goals through partnerships with local and regional social service agencies
Promotes program purpose and mission to potential students and community, business, and post-secondary partners
Meets deadlines for submitting reports/surveys and replies to supervisors' emails in a timely manner
Learns to interpret program data and works toward meeting performance goals
Maintains inventory of classroom materials and supplies
Attends staff meetings and professional development activities as required
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education or related discipline
Demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience preferred
Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate with others
Proficiency in computer skills and programs
Possess desire and ability to work with diverse socioeconomic populations who may possess significant barriers to educational completion
