Division Description

Felton's Children, Youth, Family, and Transitional Age Youth division offers comprehensive, early care and education, family support, and mental health services across San Francisco to over 400 families. Via a two-generation approach, Felton's Family Support services promote strong families and optimal development for their children by focusing on the Strengthening Families Framework. The primary function of the family supports The Five Protective Factors; parental resilience, increase social connections, increase knowledge of parenting and child development, providing concrete support in times of need, and supporting social-emotional competence in young children. This approach serves as a one-stop integrated service continuum, supporting families to address their needs largely under one roof, with a core group of staff with whom they can build trusting, supportive relationships.

ECE Programs

Felton Institute has been providing comprehensive Early Care and Education (ECE) services in San Francisco since 1971. Felton now has ECE programs in SF's Mission, Bayview, and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods; and offers a school-readiness program for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (2 weeks to 5 years old). Felton's ECE programs include 4 infants, 7 toddler, and 11 preschool classrooms, which serve approximately 400 children, full day/ year-round. These multicultural, educational classrooms provide a nurturing, developmentally challenging, and inclusive environment for very young children of low/moderate-income families. We are committed to inclusive, positive environments that build on children's positive self-esteem and self-image.

Program Description

The Child and Family Clinician will play an instrumental role in Felton's Connect and Thrive Program.

Established in 2023, Connect & Thrive (CAT) stands as Felton Institute's innovative Early Childhood Mental Health Program, seemlessly integrated within our ECE and Family Resource Centers. Rooted in the voices of families, CAT employs a multi-tiered intervention system (MTSS) and a diverse, interdisciplinary team to deliver culturally and linguistically responsive early childhood mental health interventions. Our services extend to families within Felton's ECE centers and our Family Resource Centers, ensuring their needs are met with utmost care and understanding.

Brief Job Description

The Bilingual Child and Family Clinician is a crucial member of the Connect and Thrive program, working closely with a small and mighty team to accomplish all deliverables under the CAT scope. As a high performing, hard-working and collaborative member of this team, the Bilingual Child and Family Clinician is fully embedded within Felton's ECE programs. The incumbent must demonstrate excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, a welcoming and warm attitude and must be able to work across disciplines, working closely with teachers, Early Interventionists and administrators, as well as other mental health staff. As a team member in a new program, the Bilingual Child and Family Clinician must demonstrate flexibility and must be able to function within a fast-paced and nuanced childcare setting. The role of the Bilingual Child and Family Clinician consists both of direct practice support of children and families using individual and group psychotherapy, as well as coaching and collaboration with ECE staff.

Administrative and Collaborative Duties

Maintain client records, including all mandated agency forms in accordance agency policy, state

Keep case load as required and ensures case documentation is up-to-date and reflective of services provided.

Meet all deadlines and comply with agency requirements around the documentation of your work

Report suspected child and adult abuse and follow up on all such reports.

Individual and Group weekly supervision and as well as attending necessary staff meetings and trainings

Working closely with the Clinical Director and Program Manager for the CAT program to meet program objectives and deliverables

Working closely as a collaborative team member with all ECE staff including: teachers, EII team and administrators

Job Description is divided in the three tiers of care this clinician is responsible for, based on the Multi-tiered system of Supports that we utilize as a framework for addressing children's challenges.

Tier One Activities: Targeting all children in ECE

Address families with sensitivity to minimize harm and to support healing, utilizing knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences and acknowledging the need for trauma informed approaches

Empower families by helping them develop the skills and connections to advocate for themselves, and support families in learning to use limited resources most efficiently

Facilitate and Participation in Reflective Collaboration Meetings with Felton classroom teachers using a Reflective Supervision framework

Working with SEL Specialists to support teachers with the CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid and Kimochis curriculum to integrate SEL Strategies in the classrooms at FDC and MLK

In-Classroom support following Felton's model of Early Childhood Mental Health Hand in Hand Support.

Tier Two Activities: Prevention Strategies

Perform individual observations, developmental assessments of children as assigned.

Engage in social-emotional and self-regulation support through individualization, adapting curricula, intensive intervention, behavioral intervention

Collaborate closely with school staff; make referrals to other community and mental health agencies when indicated; make referrals to other community and mental health agencies when needed

Facilitation of Child-Parent Psychotherapy (Attachment Vitamins) groups with ECE families and ECE teachers alongside Family Support staff and Parent Fellows

Tier Three Activities: Individualized Supports

Perform crisis intervention activities as necessary

Assist with consultation on issues related to Child Protective Services

Provide school and home-based weekly psychotherapy using the CPP framework to a caseload of 5-10 children and families at FDC, MLK and other ECE centers as requested and approved by the Clinical Director

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of San Francisco County Community Mental Health Services, paperwork and community resources preferred

Minimum of two years of experience in early childhood mental health or early childhood education

Knowledge of individual/family dynamics

Knowledge of child & adolescent growth and development, youth development and leadership principals

Knowledge and training of the Teaching Pyramid

Must be available to work one evening per week as needed

Bilingual in Spanish-REQUIRED

Education, certification, and licenses

Master's degree master's degree in Social Work/Psychology/Counseling

Must be CA Licensed or license eligible (registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology)

Must pass Department of Justice Fingerprint screening

Salary Range: $90,000-$94,500 Annually (DOE)
